A Bergsonian Conception of Matter as Knowing Substance
Stoyan Kurtev
Abstract
This article describes a novel approach to the understanding of the mindmatter relationship in the tradition of Bergson’s conception of matter, falling,
in his words, in the middle between materialism and idealism. The first part is
a historical review of Bergson’s ideas, and the second part is a sketch of the
proposed equating of mental (brain) states and material (particle) states.
