A COMPARATIVE CLINICAL STUDY OF “SHUNTHYADI CHURNA” AND HRIBERADI KWATHA IN “ATISAR SAMAVASTHA
Dr. Pramod Gahane
Abstract
Introduction: Atisar, also known as diarrhea, is a gastrointestinal disorder characterized by frequent loose or watery bowel movements. It is a common health issue caused by factors such as dietary habits, contaminated water, and stress. Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine, provides effective herbal formulations for managing Atisar. In this study, the efficacy of two Ayurvedic formulations, "Shunthyadi Churna" and "Hriberadi Kwatha," in treating Atisar Samavastha (diarrhea with increased liquidity of stool) was compared.
Methods: This comparative clinical study was conducted as a randomized, controlled trial. Patients diagnosed with Atisar Samavastha were randomly divided into two groups. Group A received Shunthyadi Churna, while Group B received Hriberadi Kwatha. The treatment duration for both groups was determined based on the severity of symptoms. The efficacy of the treatments was assessed by monitoring changes in stool consistency, stool frequency, abdominal discomfort, and other associated symptoms. Statistical analysis was performed to evaluate the results.
Results: The study enrolled a total of 60 patients, with 30 in each group. Both Shunthyadi Churna and Hriberadi Kwatha showed significant improvements in the management of Atisar Samavastha. The reduction in stool frequency and improvement in stool consistency were observed in both groups. However, the Shunthyadi Churna group demonstrated a slightly higher improvement rate compared to the Hriberadi Kwatha group. The differences observed were statistically significant (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The results of this comparative clinical study suggest that both Shunthyadi Churna and Hriberadi Kwatha are effective in managing Atisar Samavastha. However, Shunthyadi Churna showed a slightly better efficacy in terms of reducing stool frequency and improving stool consistency. Further research and larger studies are recommended to validate these findings and explore the mechanisms of action of these formulations. Ayurvedic medications like Shunthyadi Churna offer a safe, affordable, and accessible treatment option for patients suffering from Atisar Samavastha.
