Abstract
Iron deficiency is the most prevalent nutritional disorder in the world. The
most worrying consequences of it is the alteration of behaviour and cognitive performance
such as reduced attention span, reduced emotional responsiveness and low scores on tests
of intelligence. There is a wealth of research that shows that iron deficiency anaemia can
exert a direct deleterious effect on the brain but does this also happen with iron deficiency
status.
