A Qualitative Understanding of Factors Influencing Chinese Students to Study Malaysian Higher Education Institutions

Abstract
The purpose of this qualitative research is to determine the Factors that influencing chinese students to study Malaysian higher education institutions. The number of countries that are competing to accept Chinese students is growing rapidly. This research used a semi-structured one-on-one interview to meet the researcher’s requirements. The target sample was newly enrolled HEI students in 2021. The survey was done in English at a public and private Malaysian institution. During orientation, the survey was distributed. The survey includes a brief summary of the research and the length of the questionnaire. 10 participants were needed for 3 focus groups. One focus group lasts 45 to 1 hour. The researcher used probability sampling to enrol the participant. By promoting Chinese students on their student portal and urging the researcher’s prior participant to name their other Chinese students buddy. The researchers had little trouble recruiting this Chinese student for her research since most are ready to contribute their time and expertise. Result indicated that when choosing a university in Malaysia, students took into consideration both its ranking and its reputation. Government’s most prominent educational institutions asked the Chinese student to research Malaysian educational institutions’ reputation and rating. Most Chinese parents know that Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education assesses the ranking and reputation of universities
