A REVIEW ON SOCIAL, ECONOMIC, POLITICAL CONDITIONS OF NARIKURAVARS IN TENKASI DISTRICT OF SOUTH TAMILNADU

Abstract
This article is to provide an overview of the current situation of the 'Narikuravar' Community in Tamilnadu, focusing on their way of life and addressing the significant social challenges that the community faces in society. Narikuravars are renowned for being itinerant communities with distinctive lifestyles and religious systems. The Narikurava are an autochthonous community residing in the state of Tamil Nadu. The name Narikurava is derived from the Tamil words "Nari" and "Kurava", where "Nari" refers to jackal and "Kurava" refers to people. The term Narikurava refers to a group of people known as the "Jackal People". The name is derived from the Narikurava's previous occupation of hunting wild animals. The Narikurava ethnic group is highly marginalised in contemporary Indian society. They lack access to essential resources for survival, such as potable water and sanitation services, as well as formal education.
