A descriptive study on perception and behaviour on menstrual hygiene between women living in rural and urban areas of Haryana

Abstract
Aim: A comparative study on perception and behaviour regarding menstrual hygiene between women
living in Haryana's rural and urban areas. It was a descriptive, cross-sectional study, and did this study
in rural and urban communities of Rohtak and Sonipat (Haryana). The present study of three groups was
conducted to assess perception and behaviour related to menstruation in rural and urban areas. The
sample constituted 600 one group, 400 for second and 400 for third groups. It was a descriptive crosssectional study; that used the structured question. In rural areas, 51% use no maintained sanitary pads
(cloth), and 124 (41%) women maintained sanitary pads; in urban areas, most women, 164 (55%) use
maintained sanitary pads and 112(37%) women no maintained sanitary pads. It is seen that 59% of the
females of the rural area were aware of menarche and 62%females of urban areas were aware of
menarche. 38% of females of rural areas and 54% of the urban area obtained knowledge for the first time
from their mothers. 29% of females reacted normal, and 71%females were scared in rural areas, 42% of
females were reacted normal, and 58% of females were scared in an urban area
