A study on relationship between Academic Procrastination and Emotional Intelligence among University Students of India

Abstract
This study was conducted to explore the relationship between the academic procrastination and
emotional intelligence among university students based on gender, stream of study, and place of
residence. In the present study, the descriptive research design was used. Simple random sampling
techniques were used to select a sample of 160 students. To study the academic procrastination of
university student’s researcher used ‘The Academic Procrastination Scale’, developed by Dr. Savita
Gupta and Liyaqat Basir, and to study the emotional intelligence researcher used ‘Emotional
Intelligence Scale’, developed by Anukool Hyde, Sanjyot Pethe and Upinder Dhar. The statistical
technique used in this study was mean, standard deviation, t-test, and correlation. The findings of the
study showed that university students have an average level of academic procrastination and a high
level of emotional intelligence. There is no significant difference in academic procrastination based
on gender, stream of study, and place of residence. There is no significant difference in emotional
intelligence based on gender, stream of study, and place of residence. Also, there is no significant
relationship between academic procrastination and emotional intelligence among university
students.
