ANALYSIS AND DETECTION OF FAKE APPS IN ANDROID ENVIRONMENT

Abstract
The expeditious usage of android smartphones all over the world gave rise to the development of a huge number of android applications popularly called apps in Google and other play stores. This rapid and easier android app development environment became a platform for hackers to develop fake apps and steal the user’s private information. Fake apps are the duplicate apps created with same name, functionality of original app to extract the user sensitive information. In this rapid application development, smartphone users are unable to decide whether the app is an original intended app or a fake app. In this paper we analyzed different types of fake apps from different standard sources and reported how they extract the information once they are downloaded into the Smartphone. We proposed a Fake app detection(FAD) method to detect the app is a fake app or original app. The application detection in android smartphones is the need of the day in the society as most of the users are dependent on apps for performing daily activities. Finally our method provides a solution to detect the malicious apps in the form of fake apps in android environment
