ASSESSING THE COMPETENCE PERCEPTIONS OF QUALITY ASSURANCE AND STANDARDS OFFICERS: IMPLICATIONS FOR TRAINING PROGRAMS
Dr Vikram P Hiremath
Abstract
For Quality Assurance and Standards Officers (QASO) to carry out their jobs effectively, training is a must. However, the officers' own acknowledged requirements are seldom the basis for this training. This reduces the efficacy and relevance of the instruction. The aim of this research was to determine, from the QASO themselves, the degree of competency in five skills that are often recommended in the literature as pertinent to their job performance. Human relations, topic knowledge, supervisory techniques, report writing, and action research were the chosen talents. Finding out what subjects the QASO would find interesting from their own viewpoints was another goal of the investigation. The Republic of Kenya's Kisumu District served as the study's location. Eight QASOs made up the sample size, and they answered to an interview schedule and questionnaire. The study's conclusions showed that QASO's proficiency across the five competencies was mediocre. All of them required further training for them. The report also makes a priority list of subjects that should be included in the QASO's training program.
