An Analysis of Lexical Errors in the Writing of ESL Students: A Qualitative Study

Abstract
This study aims at identifying the types of lexical errors produced by the ESL students in India.
The sample of the study consists of thirty L2 learners enrolled in the Post-intermediate level programme
in the Department of English, Thassim Beevi Abdul Kader College for Women, Kilakarai. The data was
collected using questionnaires. The analysis of the data yielded four types lexical errors: Misspellings
(2.76%), Morphological Errors (4.87%), Another Existent Word (15.52%) from English and Nonexistent
Words in English (2.80%). This paper concludes with the pedagogical implications and future
investigations
