Assessment of the water quality of Shatt AL-Shafiya by the Water Quality Index (Canadian Index) (CCME-WQI)

Abstract
The current study was conducted on the waters of Shatt al-Shafiya, one of the branches of Shatt ALDiwaniyah of the Euphrates River in the city of AL-Diwaniyah for the period from December 2021 to May 2022, in order to evaluate the validity of the Shatt al-Shafi’i for various uses by some vital evidence, Three sites were identified at a distance of about 19,500 km,Samples were taken monthly, where the study included measuring the values and concentrations of a number of physical and chemical properties of water represented by pH, Dissolved Oxygen, Biological Oxygen Demand, Total Dissolved Solids, Calcium, Magnesium, Chloride, Nitrate, Phosphate), as well as measuring the concentrations of some heavy metals (Zn, Cd, Pb) in water. Bacterial indicators and their impact on water pollution were also studied (The total number of coliform bacteria, and fecal colon).
