Assessment-An Important Professional Competence of a Teacher: A study on Teachers’ Perception in Residential Schools

Abstract
It is widely acknowledged fact that knowledge, skill, and attitude are important factors in developing professionalism of any profession. A teacher is an important professional who can bring a massive change in a society's development. For effective teaching-learning, a teacher should have various professional competencies. Therefore, investigating teacher professional competencies is an important aspect of research now. However, suitable assessment strategies are important in bringing significant improvement in Teaching –Learning process and it is critical in ensuring a high-quality educational system. In the present work, Teachers' perceptions on assessment in government-supported residential schools in north coastal Andhra Pradesh, India are examined, and a detailed statistical analysis is presented for validation
