Association Of Serum Uric Acid And Ganglion Cell Complex Thickness In Primary Open Angle Glaucoma With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract
Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease that causes eye complications such as glaucomatous optic
neuropathy. In DM, hyperglycemia is known to the increase of uric acid (UA) excretion, which damages the
endothelial structure and the tight junctions of retinal blood vessels. In addition, alterations of the extracellular
matrix can lead to an increase in trabecular reticular resistance which causes a decreased flow leading to IOP
increase and retinal ganglion cells (RGC).
