Abstract
Thyroid cancer is the most common malignancy of endocrine system with Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) as the commonest malignancy. One of the commonest genetic alterations seen in PTC is BRAF mutation. BRAF is a proto-oncogene and a part of RAS/MAPKinase pathway. Among the BRAF mutations, the V600E alteration is the most commonly reported mutation. There are differences about the prevalence of BRAFV600E mutation in PTCs in different regions, which is said to vary between 25 to 86%. There is no data from Karnataka about the incidence of BRAF V600E mutation and its phenotypic presentation.
