CLINICAL PRESENTATION OF PATIENTS PRESENTING WITH PPD (KALA PATHAR POISONING) IN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT OF MAYO HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objective: The main objective of this study is to evaluate the Clinical Presentation of Patients presenting with PPD poisoning.
Material & Methods: Total 54 Patients came from August 2022 to November 2022. Out of these, 46 (85.2%) patients were females and remaining 8 (14.8%) patients were Male. All the Patients whom data were collected ingested the poison intentionally to kill themselves, Majority Patients were married (72.2%). Average time to reach the Hospital was 2-6 hours after taking the poison. When the Patient arrived at Emergency of Hospital then the chief complaint was asked and it was noted on the Questionnaire Proforma.
Results: Out of these 54 Patients, 46 (85.2% were females. While only 08(14.8%) were Male.
Of these, majority patients were young, Age of mostly patients was in between 20-30 years. About25(46.3%) presented with swelling of neck and difficulty in breathing as chief complaint. About09 (16.7%) patient presented with cola colored urine. Patients who experienced pain in throat and muscle aches were 16(29.6%). Three Patients(5.6%) presented with complaint of Pain in throat. OnePatient(1.1%) was having severe Arrhythmias and could not survive.
Conclusion: Presentation of paraphenylenedi Amine is acute and readily obstructs the airway. Therefore,PPD poisoning should be early diagnosed and prompt treatment should be done to minimize the death of patients.
