Comparative study of posterior cervicalforaminotomy between Traditional and minimally invasive technique
Mohamed Shaban, MD and Mohamed A Hewedy, MD
Abstract
cervical disc surgery aims to remove the (compressing agent ) soft disc fragment that is
pressing on the nerve root causing "electric," "numbing," or "shooting" pains, that often start
in the neck and travel into one arm
When surgical intervention is chosen, the posterior cervical foraminotomy and discectomy is
a well-known traditionalsurgical technique with successful outcomes in patients with
radicular pain due tolaterally located herniated disc. Recently, Minimal invasive posterior
cervicalforaminotomy(MicroscopicassistedTubularposteriorforaminotomy)isbetterthan the
traditional technique in minimizing Blood loss, postoperative hospital
stay,andpostoperativeneckpainwith the sameoutcomeregardingbrachialgia
Aime of study tocompare result of Traditional and Minimally invasive posterior
cervicalforaminotomy in relieving arm pain, operative time blood loss, complications,
andpost-operativemuscle spasm and toassess which methodis better
