Abstract
To compare sensitivity and specificity of CT Temporal and MRI Temporal in diagnosis of cholesteatoma
Methodology: A prospective comparative study with total 50 patients was conducted in the ENT department of
IMCHRC, Indore for a period of 6 months. All the patients provisionally diagnosed with unsafe CSOM clinically
were advised CT Temporal and MRI Temporal.
Results: In our study, on the basis of HRCT Temporal 78% patients had ossicular chain disruption while rest 22%
had intact ossicular chain. Diagnostic Accuracy of HRCT temporal for diagnosis of cholesteatoma was found to be
78%. While diagnostic accuracy for DWI MRI for diagnosing cholesteatoma was found to be 94%.
Conclusion: DWI MRI is highly sensitive and efficient imaging modality to precisely detect and diagnose incidence
of cholesteatoma. While HRCT Temporal is highly convenient in recognising and analysing middle ear structures.
