Cross Layer Multimedia Optimization For IoT Networks Adaptive To Network Dynamics, Traffic Dynamics And Iot Resource Constraints
Mrs. Sathya VijayKumar , Dr. Shiva Prakash T
Abstract
Streaming over IoT wireless networks is challenging due to resource constraints, component diversity and energy availability of Internet of things (IoT) devices. These challenges along with dynamic traffic characteristics distort the quality of service (QoS) for Multimedia traffic. This work proposes a novel cross layer optimization algorithm to ensure higher QoS for multimedia traffic over IoT Multi point to point communication networks (M2P). Most of the existing works does not consider multiple issues like heterogeneous device capabilities, network dynamics (both internal and external) and application traffic characteristics in QoS decisions. Due to this QoS gains are limited. This work addresses this problem through three integrated strategies of cross layer interaction, dynamic adaptation and streaming optimization. Through simulation analysis, the proposed solution is found to provide at least 17% lower packet drop and 9% lower latency compared to existing works on M2P IoT networks. In terms of video quality metrics, the proposed solution is able to provide at least 7% higher MOS score compared to recent works.
