Background: The objective of the present investigation was to determine the air pollution by microscopic fungi in the Central Market and Private Market in the city centerof Macas. Methodology: This was done using the exposed plate technique, the petri dishes were randomly placed in the Central and Private Market, they were kept unsealed for 30 minutes allowing the sedimentation of fungal spores suspended in the air. Once the exposure time had elapsed, the samples obtained from each study area were sealed and the plates were taken to the laboratory for isolation, placing them in an oven at a temperature of 36°C for 48 hours, resulting in the identification of 6 genera of microscopic fungi in the two markets analyzed. Conclusion: Through the isolation and taxonomic identification of microscopic fungi obtained in the air analysis of the Central and private markets, it was possible to demonstrate the existence of these pathogenic microorganisms and to suggest mechanisms to improve the handling of raw and prepared foods in the respective areas of the markets stadied.
