Abstract
The body's first line of defense is the tonsils. They "sample" bacteria and viruses that enter the body through the mouth or nose. Tonsillitis is an inflammatory condition of the tonsils that is common in pediatrics and E.N.T. practice. The treatment of this illness is frequently empirical, with antibiotics prescribed without regard to culture results due to b-lactamase synthesis and resistance transmission factors, the incidence of resistance is growing in many species, resulting in failed medical therapy and recurring or chronic tonsillitis
