Abstract
Placenta accreta is the abnormal invasion of all or portion of the placental trophoblasts
into the uterine wall's myometrium. Accurate antenatal diagnosis of PAS has been demonstrated to
improve maternal outcomes, allowing appropriate risk assessment and planned delivery in a tertiary
referral center with an experienced multidisciplinary team. Several population studies revealed that
PAS goes undiagnosed in half of cases in the general population, despite the fact that antenatal
diagnostic accuracy in a series from experienced centers approaches 95%. Therefore, women with
relevant clinical risk factors for PAS (eg, placenta previa and a cesarean scar) should have an
ultrasound evaluation done in a facility that has experience with this condition
