EARLY FREEDOM FIGHTERS OF SOUTH INDIA
Vignesh P, Dr.S.Bhagavathy Perumal
Abstract
Kanyakumari district, located at the southern tip of India, played a significant yet often underrepresented role in the early phases of India's freedom struggle. The region witnessed several acts of resistance against British colonial rule and earlier European powers such as the Portuguese and the Dutch. Several unsung local heroes contributed to the struggle with acts of defiance, armed resistance, and public mobilization. The socio-political landscape of Kanyakumari, influenced by native kingdoms like Travancore, created a unique blend of cultural and revolutionary spirit. These early fighters laid the groundwork for later nationalist movements in the region. This abstract sheds light on the courage, resilience, and contributions of Kanyakumari's brave sons and daughters in India’s journey to independence
