ECOLOGICAL DIVERGENCE: AN ECO – CRITICAL STUDY OF NADINE GORDIMER’S THE CONSERVATIONIST
Anisha P, Dr. M. Prabha Punniavathi
Abstract
Nadine Gordimer is the most profound figure of postmodern world. The study ecological estrangement describes a significant separation from the original environmental state. It is characterized by a sensation of isolation or alienation from the natural world or ecological systems. After Colonisation, the Colonial powers frequently enacted policies that led in the forcible removal of people from their native territories. Nadine Gordimer, who grew up in a dreary environment, presents a model of the interaction between human and nature. Her fiction The Conservationist, shows that ecological concerns are a major part of both the nonhuman and the human lives. The paper highlights the relationship in the binary oppositions of nature or culture and nature or human and these concepts are incarnated in her fiction. The paper discusses the importance of preserving and saving the environment and calling for a less threatened ecological order.
