Effectiveness of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy forthe Management of Drug-Induced Osteomyelitis

Abstract
Objectives: This Study evaluates the effectiveness of hyperbaric 02 therapies as an adjunctive measure for the
management of Bisphosphonate associated jaw Osteomyelitis (BJOM). Methods: Retrospective Study on 18 patients
diagnosed with BJOM (2019-2020) and all of them had been Treated with antibiotics, surgery and hyperbaric O2.
Results: BJOM was found in 13 of 18 (70.1%) after intravenous bisphosphonate Therapy and 5 of 18 (29.9%) after
oral bisphosphonate. Hyperbaric O2 was given for all the cases. About 14 of 18 (76.3%) were cured completely while
4 (24.1%) failed. Clinical Failure defined as, a persistent infective or relapse. Conclusions: Bisphosphonate Therapy
is now a frequent cause of jaw osteomyelitis. Hyperbaric O2 is an affective adjunctive treatment modality for the
management of BJOM with antibiotics and surgery
