Enhancing Autistic Students' Performance through Integrated Education and Therapy
Nermeen A. Qutub
Abstract
This study evaluates the efficacy of an integrated educational and therapeutic approach in enhancing the performance of students with autism across several educational institutions. We selected institutions implementing a comprehensive program, encompassing individualized educational plans alongside speech, occupational, and physical therapies. Over three months, we monitored the impact of these plans on key developmental areas: cognition, communication, independence, social interaction, and motor skills. Additionally, we conducted a comparative analysis using questionnaires distributed to teachers, specialists, and families, aiming to assess perceived improvements in students’ behavioral, social, speech and communication, occupational, and educational performances post-intervention. The study’s findings highlight significant advancements in student outcomes, underscoring the potential of integrated approaches in special education settings. Recommendations based on these results aim to inform future practice and policy in specialized educational frameworks.
