Ethnomedicinal Plants of Rajasthan: An Overview

Abstract
In this study, medicinal plants from mainly five regions i.e., Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western and
Central regions of Rajasthan were tabulated. This piece of work provides a basis for further research
about the tribal pockets of Rajasthan who have treasure of knowledge about applications of medicinal
plant parts in curing and boosting immunity of the people and in the treatment of respiratory diseases
and preventing the people from getting infected from maladies related to respiratory malfunctions.
Systematic review of the published research relating to traditional medicinal plants available in different
districts of Rajasthan was done. Research databases including Google scholar, Web of Science, Scopus
were searched using the key words - ethnomedicinal plants, tribal pockets, respiratory tract infection,
immunity boosters. Enlisting of plants based on their application in the treatment of respiratory tract
infections was systematically executed according to the different geographical regions of Rajasthan.
Selection and tabulation of 94 species of plants from 47 families was done. Solanaceae being the most
predominant family contributed maximum number of plants for treating respiratory tract infections.
Enlisting of the local name, plant parts used and ethnomedicinal use of plants for effective control in
treatment of respiratory tract infections was showcased.
