Exploring the CT Imaging Discoveries of Omicron's Respiratory Effects: A Thorough Examination of Pulmonary Manifestations

Abstract
The emergence of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 has raised concerns about its potential impact on the respiratory system. In this review article, we aimed to investigate the lung CT manifestations of Omicron. We systematically reviewed published literature using the following databases: PubMed, Medline, and Google Scholar. Our search was limited to articles published between December 2021 and March 2023, focusing on chest CT findings associated with the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Our search identified a total of 28 articles, out of which 5 were removed due to duplication. We excluded 11 non-original articles, resulting in 12 remaining articles. Among these, 5 articles met our inclusion criteria. The studies included 768 patients with confirmed Omicron infection. Based on our results, the most common CT manifestations of Omicron include ground-glass opacities (56.3%), consolidation (14%), and thickening of the bronchial wall (7%). These findings are consistent with those observed in other SARS-CoV-2 variants, such as Delta and Alpha. The lung CT manifestations of Omicron are primarily non-specific, and clinicians should consider the clinical context and other laboratory findings when interpreting these imaging studies. Our findings highlight the need for continued surveillance and research on the lung CT manifestations of emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants.
