Hospital-acquired infections also called as nosocomial infections. Nosocomial infections are the infections developing in the patients after admission to hospital, which were neither present nor in incubation at the time of hospitalization. Healthcare workers (HCWs) are at increased risk of hospital acquired infections. Nosocomial infections occur worldwide and affect both developed and developing countries. Infections acquired in health care settings are among the major causes of death and increased morbidity among hospitalized patients. They are a significant burden for both the patient and for the health care workers.
