INCREASING SELF-CONTROL IN THE APPROPRIATE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE LEARNING PROCESS OF POIGAR BOLAANGMONGONDOW SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract
High self-control is very useful in life, especially in globalization. Therefore, this research was
conducted to increase studentsability to control themselves using appropriate social media in the
learning process to be academically successful through group counseling treatment of cognitive
behavior. Furthermore, it was conducted using 20 subjects of class XI Senior High School State 1
Poigar. Research subjects were randomly sampled through a pretest-posttest control group design
and measurement instruments based on self-control in social media usage for academic success.
Verbal data was obtained on each counselee’s expression using the counseling conversation
analysis method.The data showed a significant increase in self-control ability before and after
treatment. The findings of group analysis after the experiment show that cognitive behavioral
counseling can improve self-control skills in the appropriate use of social media. School counselors
need to explore and apply various counseling approaches to assist students with difficulty
achieving academic success
