Imaging polymer Nanoparticles by means of Transmission Electron Microscopy Techniques Show different Necklace and Ring shapes
Sonali S. Rahate, Anjali M. Rahatgaonkar
Abstract
PEGylated polymer with AgNPs and AuNPs by sputtering of Ag as well as Au and amine terminated PEGylated thiazole was explored.Structural characterizations were performed using transmission electron microscope (TEM/HRTEM) and UV–vis spectroscopy. The successful formation of spherical, rod, triangular shaped AgNPs and AuNPs was observed by TEM and HRTEM. Mostly the size of all the NPs was found to be 4-60 nm. A few were 100 to 160 nm in diameter.TEM images of surface functionalized nanoparticles showed spherical structures of different sizes surrounded by a corona of silver/gold nanoparticles with electrostatic bonds. The images exhibited the necklace and ring like structures derived from corona of silver/gold nanoparticles with sizes of a few micrometer. The stabilization of AgNPs and AuNPs by PEGylated thiazole resulted blue shift and the absorbances observed at 422 and 530 nm respectively show by UV-visible spectrophotometer.
