Abstract
Objective:Toxoplasma gondii, cytomegalovirus (CMV) .The microorganisms that cause perinatal mortality and morbidity have similar manifestations in pregnancy,The mother usually has asymptomatic or moderate illness as a result, while the foetus may suffer considerably more major impacts., if the mother is infected for the first time during pregnancy , causing congenital anomalies and intrauterine fetal death andthey may cause congenital malformations, multiple abortions, premature deliveries, and stillbirths during pregnancy Recognizing these illnesses in the mother and foetus is an important issue of prenatal care.
Methods : The study was conducted in Wasit province, and samples were collected from different regions of Wasit Governorate, from Al-Zahra Teaching Hospital, AL- Kut Children's Women's Hospital, Al haj jalal Hospital, Martyr Dr. Fayrouz General Hospital and some of the private clinics, during the period from October 2021 to February 2022. There is 440 specimens of venous blood were collected from pregnant women suspected infection with toxoplasmosis , cytomegalovirus and both.Pregnant women's blood samples were taken and analysed using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
Results :The results of the study; out of total 415 positive specimens there is 29 cases positive for toxoplasmosis (6.9%), 234 CMV (56.4%) and both infection (toxoplasmosis and CMV) was 152 (36.6%). And 25 negative specimens( oftoxo and cmv) Control group. The study also showed that the most age-group exposed to infection is the second age group of women whose ages ranged between (25-34) years .The highest concentration of interleukin-8 was in pregnant women with acute toxoplasmosis (anti-Toxo. IgM,164.67ng/L ) , another hand The lowest concentration of interleukin-8 was in chronic co-infection (both-IgG 81.58ng\L ) than control group (85.12 ng\L ). The level of IL-8 in pregnant women with acute infection with toxoplasmosis was statistically significantly greater than in healthy pregnant woman (P < 0.005).
Conclusion The prevalence of CMV is the highest among pregnant women in Wasit Governorate ,The highest level of interleukin-8 occurs in pregnant women with acute toxoplasmosis,While it decreases below the limit in pregnant women with have chronic co-infection.
