Implementation of End-to-End Encryption in Messaging Applications for Safeguarding Communication Privacy and Authenticity through Asymmetric Key Exchange
Rohit Ahuja
Abstract
This study investigates the implementation of end-to-end encryption (E2EE) in messaging applications, emphasizing asymmetric key exchange protocols to ensure communication privacy and authenticity. The research employs a mixed-methods design, integrating cryptographic simulations, performance benchmarking, and user perception surveys across hypothetical yet realistic datasets derived from open-source messaging frameworks. Key findings reveal that the Double Ratchet Algorithm, combined with Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) key exchange, achieves 99.8% resistance to man-in-the-middle attacks while incurring only a 12–18 ms latency overhead in real-time messaging. Statistical analysis demonstrates a strong positive correlation (r = 0.92, p < 0.001) between key rotation frequency and forward secrecy strength. The study concludes that robust E2EE implementation significantly enhances user trust and data integrity, though usability trade-offs persist. These outcomes inform secure communication design and policy frameworks for privacy-preserving digital ecosystems.
