Linkage Between Copeptin and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Abstract
PCOS is a hormonal endocrine condition that affects a lot of women who are fertile. In addition to
having irregular or prolonged menstrual periods, women with PCOS may also have high levels of the
male hormone (androgen). The ovaries may produce a large number of tiny fluid-filled sacs called
follicles but stop regularly releasing eggs. PCOS is caused by a combination of inherited causes, excessive
insulin, and low-grade inflammation (1). Because PCOS is associated with a higher risk of future infertility,
cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, and Metabolic syndrome(Mets) it is essential to identify it early.
(2). Recently, it was found that the plasma copeptin concentrations of PCOS patients are higher. In
insulin-resistant, hyperandrogenemic PCOS patients, copeptin appears to be crucial in the development
of atherosclerosis and insulin resistance (3)
