Dr. Musheer Ahmed, Dr. Prabhu M M
Abstract
Introduction:Incidence of Spondylolisthesis in general population is 5-7%. No matter whatthe aetiology is, patients usually have significant functional disability. Few studies haveinvestigated the long-term effect of Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion.
Objectives:To study the Clinical, functional and radiological outcome of Posterior LumbarInterbody Fusion (PLIF) with autografts in High grade Lumbar Spondylolisthesis(Grade III and Grade IV) and its efficiency.
Methodology:This study was conducted in Department of Orthopaedics, Navodaya Medical College Hospital and Research Centre,Raichur, From July 2020 to June 2021, a total of 30 patients, operated with Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (PLIF) with autografts were followed up and evaluated based on VAS for low back pain, ODI and neurological deficits.
Results:Out of 30 patients, 28 patients showed fusion at the level of operated lumbarspine. There was significant reduction in VAS Scores from 8.13 to 2.03 and ODI Scores62.6% to 10.86% postoperatively. Almost all patients had no Claudication pain andthere was significant improvement in their neurological Deficit. L4-L5 level was most
commonly involved and Dural Tear was the most common complication.
Interpretation and Conclusion:PLIF is still a safe, promising and appealing technique in High gradespondylolisthesis.
