Negotiating Sovereignty on The Castle of One’s Body - The Terrible, Horrible, Very Bad Good News as A Feminist Uproar
M.K. Padma Lata, Dr. Prof S. Prasanna Sree
Abstract
Personal Rights become an indispensable part of Human rights. Yet, women all over the world are denied rights in regard to body and their lives. Women are judged blatantly for their physique, appearance and are controlled upon important decisions like marriage and motherhood. The conformity to the age-old societal norms, subjugation and subservience of women deepens the abyss between woman and her control over her body and deprives her to make crucial decisions of her life. Bodily autonomy is an allowance through which woman can gain a control over her body, make decision for herself and profoundly support her decisions. It empowers women to assert on ‘My body – my choices’ and face boldly on the attacks of body shaming. Meghna Pant is a contemporary Indian English writer who ponders deep on the sufferings of women and brings to forefront the ways and means to overcome them.
