Neural Correlation of Maturity and Perceptual Decision Making: An Event Related Potential Evidence, Time-Frequency and Measure Projection Analysis
Ahmed Almurshedi, Abd Khamim Ismail
Abstract
Perceptual decision making is one of the most complex brain perception forming multi network information interactions in the brain. The accuracy of decision making varies with age and maturity level. We have used electroencephalogram time locked with Rorschach inkblot figures for temporal investigation of decision related components in different age groups. Further study the time-frequency analysis and estimating the source generators of brain components related to the presented task using probabilistic measure projection analysis. The main two components N130 and N240 are found post stimulus onset. N130 is an early response of puzzled brain noticed in different age groups. While the trusted decision response is reflected in the late component of N240 in matured group only. The projections of ERP components are estimated mostly on the left hemisphere. Prior to decision making, the brain processes the information mostly on parietal area and the trusted decision response is present in the left temporal gyrus. In conclusion, the motor response at pre-mature age does not be informed by perceptual mental decision while it does at mature age
