Sarla Nirankari, Dr.Dharamjit Singh Parmar
Abstract
In the revolutionary Punjab the legacy of patriotic saints is quite noteworthy. Various cults have just as Udasis, Nihangs, Sewa panthi and the Nirmalas have contributed considerably in the freedom struggle. But the Nirmalas have played starring role in the revolution strife of Punjab. In the dark times of communal hatred and religious suffocation created by colonial rule; the Nirmalas were the linkage of love and cohesion among masses. They silently spread the peaceful teachings of Sikh gurus and kept the torch of truth alive by endorsing the Sikhism. This sect has lineage from Sikh Guru Nanak. Certainly the gallantry, universal brotherhood, sacrifice for the cause of nationalism and love for justice are glaring virtues of Guru Nanak Dev followed by the Nirmalas in true footings. The inheritance of revolutionary thoughts of Guru Nanak Dev could also be seen in the saint soldier character of Guru Gobind Singh. Present paper is an attempt to highlight the great martyr of Nirmala sect i.e. Baba Maharaj Singh, a renowned saint of Hoti Maradan Sampardaya of Nirmala sect. He was not only a dedicated soul of the Nirmala sect but also a political and military leader of the multitudes
