Abstract
Introduction: Clinical depression is the more-severe form of depression, also known as major depression or major depressive disorder. Major depressive disorder (MDD) is the leading cause of disability worldwide, affecting an estimated 350 million individuals globally (World Health Organization, 2012). In addition to mood symptoms, individuals with MDD experience impairments in physical, occupational, and social functioning
Case: The individual under observation was a 47-year-old man of Afro-European/Black ethnicity who had been diagnosed with major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). He displayed symptoms of a despondent mood and apathy, along with a reduced appetite that led to a weight loss of around 12 kilograms over the course of one year.
Conclusion: The lack of sufficient oral health interventions tailored for patients with mental health conditions, despite the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene in this population.
