Abstract
Labor and delivery both are not passive events by which ‘uterine contractions push a solid object through a fixed aperture’. The ability of the fetus to successfully manipulate the pelvis during labor and delivery depends upon a complex interaction of three variablesincluding uterine contractions, fetus passage, and both bony pelvis and pelvic soft tissues.
