PREVALENCE OF PRE-MENSTRUAL DYSPHORIC DISORDER AMONG MBBS UNDER GRADUATE STUDENTS IN MEDICAL COLLEGES FROM TAMILNADU

Abstract
Pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder is one of the most commonly under diagnosed condition among
women belonging to reproductive age group.1
The above may be due to poor knowledge about
the disorder and normalization of dysphoria related to menstrual cycles due to misconceptions
regarding the same.2
This study was conducted on 371 MBBS under graduate students in various
medical colleges from Tamilnadu. An online proforma was asked to be filled by the students by
the medical examiner and was assessed using premenstrual syndrome scale and results were
calculated using spss. Study resulted in 51.6% were found to have premenstrual dysphoric
disorder and 16.9% had overt or independent dysphoric symptoms.
