PROBLEMS FACED BY RETAILERS DURING DEMONETISATION IN KANYAKUMARI DISTRICT

Abstract
Small scale industries act as the backbone of our Nation. The economic development of the Nation widely depends upon the status of the small scale and cottage industries. The importance of small-scale industries is very important to break the vicious circle of poverty, to generate employment for rural development and to provide balance in upliftment of developmental activities. Hence, this study throws lights on the impact of demonetization on selected retail sectors in Kanyakumari district and their performance before and after introduction of demonetization. Many reports stated that small traders have immensely affected after demonetization because of the cash crunch and lack of infrastructure like digital payment system. Small traders in retail sector (grocery shops) small traders in agricultural products, have highly affected because of demonetization. It has deeply impacted Indian economy in various ways. But it has been widely acclaimed as positive decision taken for the benefit of the citizens. This study also gives an insight in to the problem faced by the retailers during demonetization
