Abstract
The medical industry is evolving with the help of modern computer technologies. They have moved from paperbased
record storage systems to Electronic Health Records (EHR), a digital form of storage. Inorder to share those records
among hospitals and other organizations, they are kept in centralized servers. However, centralized EHR-based systems
are prone to data loss risks, security and immutability consensus over health records which is an inefficient and risky
method. Here, blockchain is a decentralized and distributed technology that can provide an efficient EHR-management
system. This article presents a patient-centric design of a blockchain based healthcare management system, where the
patients will have unprecedented access over their data. A working prototype based on hyperledger fabric technology
has also been implemented which guarantees the security of the proposed model. Experiments on the hyperledger
fabric network based on parameters such as latency, throughput shows that proposed network outperforms the state of
art hyperledger fabric networks.
