Dr. Alvaro Paúl Moina Veloz, Dr. Alberto Sánchez Garrido, Dr. Flor Betzabet Morocho Quinchuela
Abstract
Introduction: The prevalence of pelvic floor disorders is increasing and health care providers must be
prepared to manage these conditions more frequently and effectively
Objective: to develop symptom-based case definitions for pelvic floor disorders.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted, where a random sample of medical records from 6 rural
and urban clinics was remotely reviewed.
Results: Sensitivity was 81.9% (95% CI 75.1-87.2) for urinary incontinence and 61.2% (95% CI 46.2-74.5) for
fecal incontinence.
Conclusions: Our case definition for urinary incontinence met our standard of validity and can be used for
epidemiologic research.
