Qualitative and Quantitative Phytochemical Analysis of some Edible Fruits
Mohd Hasib Ahmed , Qazi Majaz
Abstract
The freeze-dried juices of three fruits which are rich in carotenoids were analysed qualitatively and quantitatively for phytochemical constituents. The ethnopharmacological effects of Momordicacochinchinensis (MC), Citrulluslanatus (CL), and Solanum lycopersicum (SL) have been extensively studied. The chemical composition is responsible for their pharmacological effects. The plants chosen for the study are frequently used in hypertension, dyslipidemia, inflammation, wound healing, antiwrinkle, moisturizer, ulceration, and cancer. The fruits of these plants are rich in the red pigment lycopene. In this study, juices are evaluated for alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, tannins, glycosides, anthroquinones, terpenoids, saponins, steroids, sterols, proteins, amino acids, and carbohydrates.
