Relationship of polymorphism of Calpastatin gene with some carcass traits in Arabi sheep

Abstract
This study was conducted in SuqAl-Shuyoukh district, south of ThiQar province, on a sheep sample consisting of 49 local Iraqi sheep (Arabi) from one of the private sector herds.The study included slaughtering sheep in one of the butchers' shops, recording the characteristics of the carcass inside the shop, and then taking a sample of thigh meat to study some chemical traits on it, and a blood sample (from the jugular vein of the animal before slaughter) for the purpose of extracting the material and genetics and studying the Calpastatin gene and its relationship to the traits of the carcass in the sheep sample. Chemical tests were conducted on the meat sample in the laboratories of the Faculty of Agriculture and the Marshes of the University of ThiQar, and the genetic material was extracted and genetic analysis was done in the laboratory of the Marsh Research Center at the University of ThiQar By studying the nucleotide sequence of the target gene segment of the Calpastatin gene 622 (bp) in the Arabian sheep, it was found that it is located on exon 12, intron 12 and exon 13 of the Calpastatin gene. ) By calculating the allelic frequency, a slight excelled of the T allele to the C allele was found in the T˃C350 mutation.It was found that there were three genotypes for the T˃C350 mutation, TT, TC and CC, which had no significant correlation with most of the studied carcass traits, except for its significant correlation with carcass diameter and meat pH
