SEGMENTATION OF CHARACTERS IN HISTORIC DOCUMENTS BASED ON SCALE SPACE TECHNIQUE

Abstract
Character segmentation from text lines in deteriorated historical document images is difficult due to the
complicated background and the lack of regular text pattern structures. This research provides a new
method for segmenting characters from text lines in degraded historical document images based on the
Scale-space technique. The suggested approach filters out noisy pixels by assessing the extent of blobs
in a scale-space representation of the image, which is a novel methodology for segmenting handwritten
document images
