Abstract

Character segmentation from text lines in deteriorated historical document images is difficult due to the complicated background and the lack of regular text pattern structures. This research provides a new method for segmenting characters from text lines in degraded historical document images based on the Scale-space technique. The suggested approach filters out noisy pixels by assessing the extent of blobs in a scale-space representation of the image, which is a novel methodology for segmenting handwritten document images
