STUDIES ON ANTI-OBESITY ACTIVITY OF METHANOLIC EXTRACT OF GARDENIA RESINIFERA ROTH IN TRITON X-100 INDUCED OBESITY
P K Chougule, M.M. Ghaisas , R V Shete
Abstract
In the current study, we wanted to evaluate Gardenia resinifera potential to prevent obesity in
Triton X-100 induced rats. The efficiency of the common anti-obesity drug atorvastasin (10 mg/kg
b.wt.) was compared to that of the methanolic extract of Gardenia resinifera (MEGR), which was
synthesized and tested at different doses (50 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg,). The serum levels of total
cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoproteins (LDL), and very low-density lipoproteins
(VLDL) all significantly (P 0.05) dropped when MEGR was administered along with Triton X-100, but
high-density lipoproteins (HDL) rise. We demonstrate that MEGR has potential anti-obesity activity
based on our findings.
