Abstract

Help seeking behaviour of patients and their families suffering from psychiatric illnesses is influenced by many socio-demographic factors and cultural beliefs. Due to lack of awareness and stigma associated with mental disorders many patients consult a variety of sources such as traditional healers, family physicians,alternative medicine practioners, non-psychiatric specialist etc. which leads to delay in diagnosis and management of psychiatric illness
