Abstract
In this research, we report the synthesis and characterization of two nickel (II) complexes aimed at exploring their antibacterial properties. Salicylic and decanoic acids were chosen as ligands due to their acidic functionalities and potential for chelation, which influences complex formation and stability. Two synthetic methods, liquid-liquid extraction and with solvent (under reflux), were employed to yield the desired complexes. Infrared and UV-Vis spectroscopies revealed both complexes adopt an octahedral geometry around the nickel ion. Antibacterial activity assays demonstrated distinct effects on various bacterial strains. The salicylate complex displayed broader and higher activity against all tested strains, likely due to the inherent antimicrobial properties of the salicylic acid ligand itself.
