Thi Huyen Pham, Bao LinhĐoan, Thi Thuy Nguyen
Abstract
In any society, children are also the most vulnerable and need to be protected. According to the UK's National Association against Violence against Children, up to 20% of people have been victims of child sexual abuse in their childhood. In Vietnam, this problem is still not properly recognized, causing many heartbreaking cases to happen, causing injuries that follow children throughout their lives. Protecting children from all forms of abuse and sexual abuse is not only the responsibility of parents but also the duty of other actors in society. The journey to protect children from sexual abuse cannot be complete without the connection between government, schools and families. Therefore, the study conducted in-depth interviews and group interviews with 115 parents, 36 teachers and 22 leaders of ministries in government. The results show that the problem of child sexual abuse has not been given due attention when many parents are not equipped with enough knowledge and disregard this issue. The results of the interviews will be discussed to make appropriate recommendations to improve action to protect children from sexual abuse.
